Quick question???

No time for blogging...seriously! Scheduling a meltdown for the day after Christmas. I'm in desperate need of 3 1/2 highly productive days in a row. I just have to ask a quick question. If a certain husband was going to get his sweet wife photoshop for her Christmas present, which one should he get her? I don't need to do funky things to my pictures. I just want to be able to enhance their color, remove red eye, crop, you know...make improvements when necessary...BUT I don't have a clue how to use the program at this point, so I need it to be easy. I saw photoshop 5.0 at Sam's today. Is that what everyone's using? On the back of the box it talked of a better version that was what "professionals" use to edit photos...whatever that mean. One day when I'm a whiz at photoshop I will look back at this post and say "sheesh Jolene...you're such a dork!" but for now any advise is much appreciated. This is proof that I can't do everything! :o) Thanks in advance!

Sorry I can't help you out... I don't know anything about photo shop but I do use paint shop pro 8.... I've learned to do a lot with it... I think almost any program you get you will have to tinker with it to get the results you are looking for.... Hands on is always best for me... Good Luck!! T

Hi Jolene, I'm using Photoshop Elements 3 at the moment but have asked for Photoshop Elements 5 for Christmas. I like the red eye tool in Elements, very easy to use. I believe they have also added a curves tool with Elements 5 which I'm looking forward to using. Don't know if that's any help. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I also use Paint Shop Pro 8. But I'm wanting PhotoShop 5 for Christmas! PSP was easy to learn, I'm sure I can figure out PhotoShop eventually! Hope your Santa comes through for you!

Hi Jolene! I have used Paintshop Pro and Photoshop Elements both and have to say that I prefer Photoshop Elements 5.0 by a Landslide! You totally need it, and you'll totally love it. :-D Now we need to find an open weekend so I can come down and play.... if we survive the holidays. I might try to call you later or tomorrow. Oh my heck, my life is nuts right now. LOL Love you! Tember

We have Photoshop CS at work, and though my sister says it's more program than we need, I like it better than the (older) version of Elements I have at home.

Jolene - Before you shell out $500, save the money and download the free image manipulation program called GIMP (http://www.gimp.org/windows/).

It's just as powerful as the overpriced Photoshop, and is perfect for photo retouching.

The website also has tons of tutorials for everyone from beginners to advanced pro users.

Sorry to sound like an advertisement, but I'm a big fan of it!

I use Photoshop CS2 AND Paint Shop Pro 9. Both have so many features I have never used. I swear one day I will take a long detailed course. I like features of both. For some things I use CS2 and for others I use PSP9. Sorry obviously I am no help either!

Oh and I have fantastic news (for me at least). I found the candy cane kisses!!!! They are so darned good! Thanks for having me on such a hunt for them! Well worth it!

The new Photoshop Elements (I think 4) has been getting rave reviews from the other photographers I know. Suppose to have better red eye remover than PSE3 and lots of new features... I'd get it... AND under $100

I'd say have him get you the photoshop 5.0. It's like $80 bucks

You've already gotten lots of comments, but Adobe sends me all of their new products. In fact, I just tried out Photoshop CS3, which isn't even released yet! And I have to say that I really really like Elements 5.0. It's inexpensive and very user-friendly, especially if you're not planning to do anything super fancy and technical with your photos. Okay, that was a really rambling message. Good luck!

Jolene:

Are you going to to the 12 to 12 cropping event at Recollections next Friday? I'll be there. For any of the ladies in the Phoenix/Tempe/Mesa/Chandler area, it's $30 and includes 2 meals. You have to call ahead of time.

I use Photoshop CS2 for everything but I think you would be fine with Elements 5.0 I think you can get that for under $100. If you don't want to spend that much you can get a great program called FX Foto for $30 for their Deluxe edition and $50 for their Creative edition (if you ever wanted to try your hand at Digital Scrapping!) ;)

Good luck!

Jolene, I use Photoshop CS2. But I think PS Elements would be what you would want.
