Main Street

We discovered that old town Main Street in Mesa does Friday night out on the 2nd Friday every month. It's a night when all the stores that normally close at 5:00 p.m. stay open until 9:00 or 10:00 so that they can get business from people who work and never make it down town. It was great to walk the street. There are statues everywhere and lots of the stores had live music, face painting, balloon animals, great sales, art work displayed. We had dinner first at Grandma's kitchen, then walked it off. It was just a lot of fun.
Cole and Cody with Humpty dumpty.I'm not real fond of this statue, but Mark wanted my picture with them....perhaps skinny by comparison???
They look so cute walking together...but it wasn't long before the boys were in head locks. :o)
I found this in my new favorite store, Vintage Charm. Way back when we were looking for furniture I desperately wanted red furniture for the family room. I ended up with blue furniture with red throw pillows because we never found anything that was remotely affordable or as cute as this set. Oh how I love it...and the 1 1/2 chair is a glider! how cool is that?!

That is one BIG pink chair! The boys even thought it was cool.

Mark did get me a little something in the Vintage Charm store. As you can tell from the size of the bag, it was NOT the furniture...but I can't show you because I forgot to take a picture of it. Hints, it's cheap, red, has 2 tiers, and is for my kitchen. I'll have to take pictures in the morning. Isn't the packaging too cute? It's all about the details...love it!

I wish I had taken more pictures of the shops. They are all so stinking cute. We wandered around several antique shops. I don't advise doing that with children because they have the you break it you buy it policy so we were constantly saying "don't touch that" Next month we plan to go again....without any boys. :o)
Do you all know how excited I am that so many of you are wanting to send Chad rubber duckies. I KNOW he's going to LOVE them. I'm loving that it brought out even more lurkers. Welcome and feel free to leave comments anytime. This blog/journal has brought me so many new friends. It's such a great thing. By the way, I did talk to Chad tonight. He was in Bahgrahm (sp?) Afghanistan and getting ready to board his flight to Farah where is base is. I for one wouldn't like that flight. For safety reasons the plane has to fly really high then go into a dive to land so that it's less of a target. There's no seat belts. You just hold onto whatever you can. He said he'll email me when he has arrived safely at the base. Before I sign off I just want to share a quick email I got from Chad. It made me cry. Heck, even the one line I love you mom emails make me cry. Oh how I miss that boy!
I love you so-o much mom !!! you are the greatest mom anyone could ever ask for !!! you and dad have done so much for me my whole life and on this past leave ...i just wish now that i could have spent more of it with you...however i did enjoy the lunches the shopping and especially the bowling !!! and most of all the huggs !!! i love you so much mom !!!

Sounds like y'all had fun! Trying to figure out what you got -- a tiered fruit basket?

So happy that you were able to spend a little time with Chad. I know that it must have been extremely difficult to share him. ;-) Sounds like a very scary flight - happy he made it safely. You've got a wonderful son, Jolene!! Such a sweet message.

Love those little shops. I have a special angel shop I go to in a little town called West Milton :)

Love the pics of your shopping journey.

Andi sent me a angel duck from E-Bay. Bought it for Chad. Did you not expect an angel?

I loved reading the e-mail from Chad.

Take care,
Love,
Terri

Jolene,
You get a great big gold A for being such a great sport about posing with the statues!! I think you earned that little gift that Mark bought ya!! I'm guessing it's a shelf... As for Chad, I saw a rubber duck at Fry's as I was talking with a friend I ran into and I immediately thought of Chad, and then walked over to the other side of the store and forgot!! I need to go back!!! I am so glad you get emails from him... how wonderful to have this connection with your son. You are a beautiful spirit, Jolene, and you and your family are blessed and protected by God... He's going to take very good care of you and Chad and your family! Thanks for the pics of downtown Mesa...I need to do that Friday night thing sometime...it really sounds like a lot of fun...several shops I like are up there, but I've never made the time to do it... shame on me!
You're awesome, my dear! : )

I'm so glad he emailed you. It's not the same as hearing his voice but it lets you know he's still safe. Chad as well as all of them will continue to be in my prayers for a safe return!

Main Street looks like a lot of fun. Glad you documented so much of it with photos--that makes it much more interesting.

That flight you described for Chad does not sound like fun one bit. Hope is there safe and sound now.

Hi Jolene,
I've been a military wife for 12 years which is why I love to read your blog, I feel close to anyone who is in the military or has family in the military. I do have to tell you though, for Chad and his command's safety you really should think about not writing where he is and when he leaves or any kind information of their scheduled movements. It's something they drill into us when our husbands deploy or go on missions. My husband is gone for the second time in two months and I pretty much only know when he leaves and he calls me as soon as he gets to the airport here, that's it. He can't tell me much of anything else, not on the phone or email, try telling an 11 year old and a 5 year old for the hundreth time that you don't know when daddy is comming home! All he can tell his mom and family is that he'll be gone and he'll hopefully be coming home soon. I also think that the military is cracking down on military members blogs because some have been putting too much information on the internet. I'm actually grateful for that because I would hate for someone in my husband's command to be blogging about their whereabouts, especially since he's in a dangerous country right now. So, please don't take this the wrong way, I'm just looking out for Chad too, because he can get in trouble if someone from his command sees their itinerary on the internet.

Ok I knew I loved ya for a reason. I have a couch with EXACTLEY the same plaid fabric as the one you took the photo of. I got it at IKEA about 4 yrs ago and the fabric is now SHOT and splitting. ;-( I LOVE THIS COUCH and we just got a new second hand set but i am still having a hard time lettin go of my RED couch as it sits behind the new couch. lol.

You got good taste, wink wink, which means I must have some taste too. tee hee.
