organized moving

We are officially moving the weekend of March 10th. The end of the boys 3rd quarter at school is the 9th. Then it's spring break and I will go to see Chad from the 14th-19th. Crazy timing. I talked on the phone today to a friend about how stressed and completely un-organized I feel with this move. She gave me some suggestions that flylady uses and so I got to work with my own organized moving notebook. I'm using a 1/2 inch 3 ring binder. I made a cover sheet, a room color chart, and a sheet for each room that has the room, it's color, a column for box numbers and a column for items in each box. I printed them all on cardstock so it will be more durable. I also included a floorplan sheet with color scribbles on each room to tape to the wall so that when people are bringing boxes in they will know which room to take them to. I put a pen and all the sharpie markers in a fannie pack so while I'm packing I can write box #'s on the top and all 4 sides on each box, then write the contents in my book. I decided this was the only way to keep my sanity through this move and save my marriage. (not that it's at risk) Every time we move I get so mad at Mark and usually want to smack him. I would like to avoid those unkind feelings this time around. Men and women just do things differently and women like to be more organized...and well, men don't. Enough said! :o)

WHEN do you manage to have TIME to create all of these CREATIVE little projects?!?!?!!? LOL!

GREAT idea !!! If you have the templates for the moving book handy ... could you email them to me... I'm HOPING I'll be moving later this year and they'd definitely come in handy !

And - if you find any country stuff you want to get rid of during your move - let me know... I may be interested in buying it from you :)

Haven't you heard of throwing stuff in a box and unpacking it later for a big surprise? Then the boxes that you don't unpack for 2 years, you drop off at the Goodwill!

Leave room in a peach box for your PINK scarf that should get there by Tuesday!

What a great idea. Never thought of doing that. I hope that it works for you.

Wow...I love that idea. I swear, one time that I moved, we just loaded our dishes in a box and set them in the car...they made it all in one piece, but I don't think it's too wise...the color system seems much better!

FANTASTIC Jolene, I love that moving book idea. You must share where you got that from, not that I am moving any time soon.

I think PINK is the most important colour in my opinion. lol

ROFLMAO, you want to smack him huh? That seriously made me giggle :)

Hang in there tough Jolene, you can do it!

I'm impressed!!! You are so organized. We still have boxes of "stuff" in our garage and we've lived in this house for 3 years. My husband keeps asking when I'm going to go through them. He seems to think if I haven't needed whatever is in them in the last 3 years...I really don't need whatever it is!!! Ya think?

This is AMAZING! I will have to remember it for the next time we move. Once again your ability to smile and make things fun is an inspiration to me!

You're too funny! I did something very similar when we moved in June. Girl after my own heart, I love it! Good luck with the move. Hope everything goes smoothly. I'm glad you're kids are older and can help. Mine were 1 1/2 and 3 1/2 when we moved. UGH!

Those charts are amazing. I've only moved a couple of times but it was mainly chaos and mayhem both times. LOL Looks like you've got it pretty organized. Hope that helps with the stress level!

This is such a cute and clever way to stay organized, AND you will know exactly what is in each box.

When Mike and I moved to Virginia his company paid a professional moving company to pack us up and move us here. It was our responsibility to remove each thing from the boxes upon arrival. They labeled almost everything "Professional Papers and Professional Books" ... it was horrible!! It took me forever just to find my utensils and cookware. Anyway ... it really will be nice to know what is actually in each box.

Good luck with your move!

Go head girl, with your PINK scrap room. You are a woman who knows what she wants. I hope you get it ALL. Lord know you deserve it!

Love the notebook idea. I shall have to "borrow" it next time I have to move!

Great idea Jolene! I don't move often, but I hope if I ever do have to do that horrid chore again, I will remember this notebook. It would definitely make things a whole lot easier.

Sure sounds like you've got everything under control! Great idea about the moving notebook. I wish I had that when we moved! It would've made things a whole lot easier!

Oh my holy heck! I love this!! My hubby's job requires that we move every couple of years. You have taken this leaps & bounds beyond what I've done in the past (I'm a spreadsheet kinda gal). You've converted me to your color system!
I popped over here from my friend Amy M's blog. She always speaks so highly of you. I was delighted to see that you're from Mesa (I went to Westwood HS way back when).
Hope you're feeling better!
