Table...before and after

As if I don't have enough to do right now I decided to paint the sofa table that's in my kitchen dining room. It was the honey pine, but we've had it for MANY years and it was looking REALLY beat up...as you can imagine with raising 5 boys. Seriously BAD! I already had a quart of paint in the cupboard so I figured, what the heck. I'm doing it! The color said black ink, but it looks more charcoal. I painted it, then sanded the edges to give it more of a rustic look. (You know...beat up on purpose) Then I sealed it. I LOVE it! For now the holiday village will reside there. Come January it will be something else.

I'm outta here. Need to clean my house and prepare for the young women who are coming here tomorrow night to make holiday treats. We are sending them to Chad and his roommate as well as all the houses on my street. Cole counted and said there are 27 houses but 4 are vacant. Just doing our part to get these people to come out of their shells around here. I'm so use to knowing all my neighbors. We will again if I have anything to say about it. :o)

oh! I made the gumdrop ornament by hot gluing a ribbon all the way around a 2 1/2 inch styrofoam ball leaving a loop at the top for hanging. I did it that way because the gumdrops make it a heavy ornament. Then I just hot glued on the gum drops...cute and easy!

Love the table...it matches your kitchen table now so well. And such a great idea for an ornament. My daughter would love to make one of these! Sorry I missed commenting for the RAK...I guess that will teach me to skip my blog-reading for a few days!

I love that table! I have an old table in the process of being painted black...I started it this summer and haven't gotten around to finishing it...if only I had your energy! :)

Love the table, looks wonderful.

Hmmm must try the candy ornament with my girls. I'm thinking they would eat more than glue though, he he he.

OH MY GOSH! You can't even KNOW what an inspiration you are to me. Beautiful and gracious hostess when we met on my visit to Arizona, your house is AMAZING ... the decorations PHENOMENAL ... you all bloggers seeing her Jolene's pictures? It's even better in person.
Girl ... you ALREADY had it all going on and NOW your Christmas decorations are totally knocking my socks off! WOW! And you would have had more comments on your give away if my computer was working (totally dead now ... on hubby's lap top) so I am an infrequent visitor, not how I'd like it, but your blog is certainly worth the wait. WOW! Your house looks super. How lucky your family is to live in such a beautifully decorated home. They must brag on you to everyone they know. Inspirational. I am heading to my den to decorate! I am inspired!

Now ... if only I made any SENSE when I spoke. What I meant to say was: All you bloggers looking at Jolene's pictures .... not you all ... her Jolene ... what am I a cave woman? Lol!!!

Love your table Jolene...you did a great job. I have a little red table that I want to paint black and distress...but have been too chicken to start since I've never painted anything before. Guess I'll just have to tackle it and try!

Be sure and share pictures of the baking adventure.

THat table looks cool. I love pulling black into a room whether it's in a ceiling fan, furniture or picture. Looks great. Hope you had fun baking.

Well that certainly is alot easier for that ornament than what I did! DUH, should have used hot glue! I used toothpicks and stuck them in the styrofoam ball when I made them last Christmas. Off to make easier ones now!

Like the gumdrop idea. What a great "kid" ornament project. I'm hosting a "virtual" cookie swap http://tinkerspiggies.blogspot.com/2007/11/art-of-cookie-exchange.html if you are interested. I figured since you'll be baking, why not snap some pics to share :0)

I have no clue how you do it!!!! I was like Chickenbells... 'what table' ??? Then behold!! I have a ya-ya who did the same thing to a table in her family room. Started out the same color as yours and ended up distressed white/cream. It is absolutely gorgeous and looks like a very nice, new piece of furniture! I love how you always see a second life in things, Jolene! I would never have that foresight! See girl?? We keep learning from you!! : )))

This is Elisha Snow's mom, Lynne Christopher. Your profile is very much like what mine could be in many ways. Elisha is the oldest of 7 children. I do all the usual mom things....clean, carpool, cheer, nurture, cook, wash, clean, fulfil callings..... But HOW do you read blogs, comment on blogs, let alone keep up your own blog along with scrap booking, crafting, decorating(quite beautifully,I might add),etc., etc.... I want your energy or whatever secret you have that may give me a clue into how to do all the amazing things you do!And thank-you so much for all the wonderful comments you leave on Elisha's blog. They are very uplifting, encouraging and kind.
